I’m Andy Downton, Chart.PR, a media consultant specialising in crisis communications, leadership communication and strategic communications for organisations operating in high-pressure environments.
In April 2026 I became a Chartered Public Relations Practitioner with the Chartered Institute of Public Relations. The assessment focused on ethics, leadership and strategy, alongside a peer-reviewed two-year CPD plan.
My background spans broadcast journalism and senior NHS communications leadership, where I led media teams and supported organisations through complex and high-profile situations. That experience shapes how I work today, with a focus on clarity, credibility and practical delivery.
I don’t approach communications as theory. My focus is on what works in practice, helping organisations and leaders communicate clearly, confidently and effectively when it matters most.
My work has evolved beyond traditional media training. Through Never Off Record and my “On the Record” approach, I prepare leaders for the reality of modern scrutiny, including public meetings, media pressure and real-time accountability, not just formal interviews.
Alongside this, I work with organisations to create high-quality video podcasts and audio content, helping them communicate in a more direct and engaging way. I support everything from concept and production through to on-screen delivery and presentation.
With more than two decades behind a microphone, I also provide professional voice work, including voiceovers, news-style delivery and podcast hosting.
I work alongside organisations in a way that is practical, collaborative and focused on outcomes. That might involve preparing leaders for scrutiny, strengthening internal capability, or supporting organisations through challenging and high-profile situations.
The name Never Off Record reflects a simple principle. In high-pressure environments, everything you say matters. My role is to help organisations and leaders be ready for that.
Alongside my consultancy work, I also create travel content under Andy Downton Travel, sharing honest, experience-led reviews of flights, airports and destinations from the North West of England.
